Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan will miss today’s Africa Cup of Nations’ Group C clash against Senegal due to “mild bout of malaria”.

According to a statement from the Ghana FA, Gyan has not trained with the squad in the last two days because of the illness, but there is no cause for alarm.

The former Sunderland striker was admitted to a hospital in Mongomo on Saturday night and discharged the following morning.

The team doctors will continue to monitor him closely to see if he can be involved in Monday’s match against the Teranga Lions.

If Gyan does not pass the lateness fitness test, Andre Ayew of Marseille will be tasked to captain the Black Stars.

Meanwhile, defender John Boye was also rushed to a hospital in Mongomo after complaining of weakness. The Ghana FA’s twitter handle said the Turkey-based guardsman is back in camp now.
