Female rappers are discriminated against – Eno

It seems while the number of male rappers in Ghana keeps soaring, that cannot be said of their female counterparts and this, according to Eno, Ghana’s best female rapper may be due to a couple of reasons.

Eno believes that in addition to the female rappers not being consistent, they are also ‘discriminated’ against when it comes to renumeration.

“I think the male dominated industry is not helping female rappers. We perform better than the guys but they are better paid.

“ You see, when it comes to performances, so much go into it for us than our male counterparts. Our appearance has to be on point—hair, make-up etc but the industry is not helping female rappers,” she explained when she spoke with Showbiz on Wednesday.

“ Also, here in Africa, artistes who sing make more money than those who rap so some of the female rappers switch to singing and that, I believe, could be a factor why there are very few female rappers.”

“I don’t have a problem with those who switch to singing but they need to know that as a rapper, your identity should not be lost because that is what people know you for. We now have a situation where rappers especially the females are not rapping because they are getting paid more for singing,” she said

Eno who has been touted as the best female rapper in Ghana believes nothing has changed and she still holds the bragging rights.

“Of course, I am still the best. I haven’t seen anyone do it better than I do,” she said without hesitation when this reporter posed the question to her.

Born Ruth Nyame, Eno said she has not released anything this year because she switched management and she is also undergoing rebranding.

” I have been busy working on rebranding. Expect a new Eno, everyone knows I can rap and I also do good songs and I am taking that a notch higher this year. I will also do collaborations with the girls because I have always been known for doing it with the guys.

“ That is not all, my fans should expect songs, collaborations and videos soon. Some singles off my Yaa Asantewaa album which will be released later this year and their accompanying videos will be released at the end of this month so watch out for them,” she added.

Eno, who will be performing at this year’s Ghana Meets Naija which comes off on May 27 at the Accra International Conference Centre is known for songs such as Tonga, The Best, Daawa (feat Shatta Wale). Stonebwoy), Gari(feat Kwaw Kese) and King of Queens (feat Medikal).
