Filmmakers Call For Tax Incentives To Revive Business

Director at Farmhouse Productions Ltd., Ivan Quashigah, who spoke to Joy Business believes this will go a long way to resuscitate the industry.
He disclosed that the high cost of movie exhibition and importation of equipment is the reason many producers are pulling out of the industry.
“Government has to show some interest; for instance, if we are importing film equipment we could have some kind of rebates.
“Or we could have tax discounts or whatever it is that we can get that can help us to import film equipment that would enhance our work,” Mr Quashigah said.
He added, “we could also be given some tax rebate in terms of an exhibition to exhibit our films.”
The film producer also noted that the local cinema business is being relegated to the background as most cinema halls have been turned into churches.
He said, “in the past, we had so many cinema houses but most of them have now turned into churches and all that so we’ve lost all the cinema houses and now films are more shown on televisions and other devices than the cinema house.”
Ivan Quashigah, spoke to JoyBusiness at the final episode of the MTN Open Coffee series, a 3-day series which brought together local content creators.
This was to give them a platform to discuss the essence of intellectual property, video making and how to leverage technology to report on issues of national interest.
The final episode brought together content developers and it was focused on video making.
