Ghana’s Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), together with the Copy Rights Office of Ghana of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and other stakeholders will mark ‘No Music Day’ on Friday, September 14.

These bodies join the Confederation of International Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) to observe the day with other African countries.

The official announcement was made on Thursday at a Press Conference in Accra.

Ghanaians are expected not to avoid music in any activity to mark the day.

Radio and TV stations have been asked not to play any form of music in order to stress the importance of music in people’s daily lives.

‘No Music Day’ significantly highlights the need for individuals and organizations to pay copyright claims for the usage of musical works.

The Press Conference was attended by Rex Omar, the Chairman of GHAMRO, Bice Osei Kuffour, President of MUSIGA, Mark Okraku Mantey, the President of Creative Arts Council, Diana Hopeson and a host of other dignitaries.

Public Relations Officer of GHAMRO, Prince Tsegah told Joy Prime’s Ibrahim Ben Bako that the ‘No Music Day’ will last for two hours between 8am and 10am.

Prince Tsegah emphasized that the observation is not only in Ghana but across all African countries that are members of CISAC.

He also asked all media organizations and individuals to respect the value of music by observing the day.
