Golden Movie Awards – Africa – a new-fangled awards scheme which seeks to honor individuals in the African movie industry who have impacted and excelled in their acting careers– was officially launched in Accra on Wednesday, February 11, 2015.

The awards system which comprises of 21 faculty members and a grand jury is open to all film-makers across Africa
Speaking at the launch, Country Director of Golden Movie Awards – Africa, Wilhelmina Abu-Andani, stressed that it was the intent of the organizers to set up a credible awards scheme which would match the continental standard of excellence, hence the formation of the Golden Movie Awards – Africa. According to her, “this award has come to stay for good.”

“The Golden Movie Awards – Africa is intended to be a multifaceted cross-cultural bestowment system, creating conditions under which the actors in the Africa movie industry may develop a sense of self-assured creativity by measuring their works against the exacting demands of international standards”, she pointed out.

According to the organizers of the awards scheme, the event will bring together more than 1,500 key film professionals, craftspeople, and Decision‐makers from across Africa to honour, celebrate, and promote film industries in Africa.

Miss Andani in her submission also stated that film-makers can submit their movies for nominations from Thursday, February 12, 2015 to April 12, 2015. As she put it, “the movie must have been released from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2014 before it could qualify to be nominated.”
