The Kumasi Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye has said that, the arrest and prosecution of hiplife artiste, Kwaw Kese is not just about smoking but the fact that, he smoked in public with impunity. “Kwaw Kese’s case wasn’t simple a matter of using drugs, but an act of lawlessness. How can you start smoking in front of a pub?” he said. According to him, the arrest wasn’t personal and that; the Police didn’t go to his room to arrest him for smoking. “Kwaw Kese’s arrest was not personal or malice inspired. We must understand that we are all governed by law” He also described the Kwaw Kese movements as “grievous” asking that, “Why should people say they are going to form a free Kwaw Kese group? Why him & not the others?” Kofi Boakye was speaking on Super Morning Show with Kojo Yankson. Kwaw Kese, real name Emmanuel Botchwey was arrested on Saturday at Nhyiaseo, a suburb of Kumasi, publicly smoking cannabis in a company of some friends. The rapper was sentenced by the Circuit Court Judge William Buampong for smoking cannabis which is illegal in Ghana. He has however been refused bail twice.
