Loyalty Won’t Pay My Bills – AJ Poundz

When she announced her move from TV Africa to Onua TV in August this year, actress/TV presenter, AJ Poundz didn’t only receive congratulatory messages but also insults from fans and critics for abandoning her former employers in their worst times.

On a daily basis, AJ Poundz, the former host of Pae Mu Ka on TV Africa faced abuse on her various social media pages for being disloyal to the station after it had given her the platform to grow her talent.

However, in a recent chat with the Graphic Showbiz about her new show, Konkonsa, on Onua TV, the mother of one said she found the insults laughable as loyalty won’t feed her.

“As for Ghanaians, they are best at making decisions for people and so I’m not surprised people think leaving TV Africa was disloyal. I’m a single mother of one with many dependents, how does my family survive when I stay at a place when things continue to go from bad to worse.

“I don’t think my former employers would keep me if I didn’t live up to expectation, it is so clear I would have been shown the exit so why can’t I move on when my expectations are not met too? Nobody eats loyalty, loyalty won’t pay bills and I have every right to make good decisions for my future,” she stated.

The native of Osino in the Eastern Region said she resolved not to give ear to negativity, especially when presenters such as Berla Mundi and Giovani Caleb faced worse after leaving the EIB Network.

“If you want to mark time in life, that is a personal decision but no one has the right to force others to do the same. Some years ago, many of the top TV presenters at TV3 resigned because obviously, things were not too good so why are people screaming loyalty all over the place when the tables have turned today?” she queried.

AJ Poundz, real name Matilda Adjoa Densu started her journey in showbiz as an actress. She has featured in many movies including Makeup Girl, Bongo Clinic, The Battle, Once Upon The 80s and has also appeared in TV commercials for Vodafone, Joy Twedie Ginger, Safia Rice, Kiss Condom among others.

AJ dropped out of Central University when she was in Level 200 after she was pregnant with her child. Though she wanted to go back to school, her low finances stopped that ambition and she switched to showbiz.

AJ told the Graphic Showbiz that she may not be at the top of her career but her resolve to be influential in the media space is gradually paying off and she is confident her new show, Kokonsa will show her worth.

“Pae Mu Ka was controversial and though it got me a lot of viewership, I want Kokonsa to be more professional and less controversial. It intends to show my maturity as a TV presenter over the years and not the controversial image identified with my brand,” she noted.
