MTN Ghana, as part of it’s open coffee week held a film making workshop in Accra for film makers and people who have interests in film making.

This workshop covered basics in film making topics from cinematography, directing, production, pre- production, continuity, casting, shooting among others.

This session by far recorded the largest number compared to previous days which tackled “improving the field of digital journalism” and “smarter ways of improving intellectual property rights in Ghana”.

The workshop which kicked off around 9am on Wednesday saw popular industry players as well as both established and aspiring filmmakers troop into the MTN House in Accra- Ridge to seek more knowledge on the basics of filmmaking.

The sessions were facilitated by Mr. Ivan Quarshigah, a film maker, director, producer as well as CEO of Farmhouse Productions and Mr. Yao Ladzekpo, a cinematographer, director, researcher and lecturer at NAFTI also facilitated a session of the workshop.

Mr Ivan, detailed the basics of filmmaking where he spoke about the importance of casting, how to start preparation for your shoot, script breakdown, Recce/ location, costume, props, equipment, crew and etc.

Mr Ivan Quarshigah, who is known for directing popular television series “things we do for love” and the most recent “YOLO” after his lecture at the MTN open coffee powered by monetization platform MTN SHORTZ, shot a brief one-scene montage which featured participants of the workshop to further elaborate on what was discussed on the day.

Concepts were drawn in the form of short scripts as well by attendees of the workshop where the leading telecom communication network MTN gave away free phones to the best two scripts out of the lots that were presented. The cast of the short film directed by Mr Ivan on the day were also gifted some cool Souvenirs by MTN.

Mr. Yao Ladzekpo on the day hammered on Cinematography. The Shortz cinematography workshop taught by the NAFTI lecturer was a rather lengthy one because it was very engaging and super educative. I learnt so much about the use of camera equipments like the tracker, lenses, drones etc. He further took us through what image creators do, importance of photography, parts of the camera, camera movement and so much more.

The film making workshop was held at the MTN House in Ridge, Accra.

The previous days have seen workshops on digital journalism and intellectual property, both of which were largely patronized by industry professionals. The previous workshops were also facilitated by experts and professionals in the field.
