In a bid to increase the offering of Ghanaian content on the Africa Magic channels, the management of Multichoice Ghana and M-Net (West) recently organized a meeting with prominent stakeholders from the Ghanaian film and television industry. The event which held in Accra was attended by representatives of the Ghanaian movie and TV industry and members of the country’s film and television regulatory agencies.

The event provided a platform for the various stakeholders to discuss critical issues like the acquisition and marketing of content, and the necessary copyright frameworks for intellectual property protection.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director, Multichoice Ghana, Mr. Cecil Sunkwa-Mills, said: “Multichoice has always supported the development and showcasing of entertainment content across the African content. We organized this meeting to not just explore how to increase the availability of Ghanaian entertainment content on our DStv and GOtv platforms, but to also gain some insight into the challenges Ghanaian filmmakers face with the production and distribution of their content.”

The highly interactive event also featured a production workshop anchored by Mr. Yibo Koko, the Head of Production for M-Net West Africa. The workshop educated the guests on modern production standards and evolving trends in the film and television industry. A highlight of the event was the agreement to have an Africa Magic office situated in Ghana to assist with the acquisition and onward transmission of content from the country.

The Regional Director, M-Net (West), Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, said: “Africa Magic is undoubtedly the home of world class African entertainment; the movies, series, reality and magazine shows which air on our channels have contributed immensely to the showcasing of talent across the continent and to the rest of the globe. The Ghanaian film and television industry remains a popular and relevant source of African entertainment content and we are keen to not only increase the offering of this content on our channels, but to also actively engage and assist the industry that produces it.”
