Rapper Trigmatic has recounted that his grandmother shed tears when he won his first award at the Ghana Music Awards.

According to the rapper, born Enoch Nana Yaw Oduro-Agyei, his grandmother could not hold back her tears of joy when he won the ‘Best Rapper of the Year’ at the 2011 edition of the awards.

“She [shed tears] the whole night,” he told Andy Dosty in an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM Friday.

Trigmatic revealed that he took his grandmother to experience the awards on that day because he was confident of winning and wanted her to share in his victory.

“I was telling her all the time this day will come,” he said.

The rapper, who sounded very religious, said all that the things he prophesied about his life have come to pass. He said he is therefore not surprised when good things come his way.

All have, however, not been smooth for Trigmatic. He has endured his fair share of criticisms and attacks. 

The ‘My Life’ hit rapper recounted that “There was a time I was performing on stage,” and someone jumped on stage and he thought the person was going to support him but rather, the person told him to try and be like other artistes.”

“All they say is that ‘why are you not doing what everybody is doing?’” the rapper said.

An unfazed Trigmatic stressed that such comments and criticisms because “never compromising and staying true to my sound” is one key lesson he has learnt over the past decade.

Trigmatic, since winning the ‘Best Rapper of the Year’ in 2011, has gone on to win ‘Best Collaboration of the Year’ at the 2013 and ‘Record of the Year’ at the 2014 edition of the Ghana Music Awards.
