Stop Comparing Me To Ebony – Wendy Shay

Stop Comparing Me To Ebony – Wendy Shay

Since Rufftown Records signee, Wendy Shay released her hit single, Uber Driver, many people have compared her style to that of late Dancehall artiste, Ebony Reigns.

Even though she has released two more singles; Bedroom Commando and the latest Astalavista and has shown she is doing her own thing, it seems she cannot escape the constant comparison to the Kupe star.

However, Wendy Shay says people should stop seeing her as another Ebony because she has her own unique style.

“I don’t want people to compare me to Ebony because I am completely different from her. She was a Dancehall artiste and I am an Afrobeat artiste.

“Despite the fact that we come from the same record label, Rufftown Records, my style is completely different,” she told Showbiz in an interview recently.

Although Wendy Shay, whose real name is Wendy Addo, is not happy with people thinking she is copying Ebony, she said her late label mate was a legend and she is happy at the impact Ebony made before her demise.

“No female artiste has been able to make the impact that Ebony made in less two years and I am so happy for her. Every song she released was a massive hit, from Poison to Maame Hwe, Hustle, Sponsor and Date Ur Fada just to mention a few,” she said.

If there is one regret Wendy Shay has, it is not collaborating with Ebony on a song before she died.

Although she studied Nursing in Germany, Wendy Shay says she will always choose music over nursing because music is her first love. “I have always said that nothing will change my mind about music because I love it,” she said.

Asked whether she will move from Rufftown Records should she get a big money offer, she said she is very comfortable with the label and has not intention of moving.

“I am impressed with the work Rufftown Records has done for me so far and I know they have bigger projects for me,” she said.
