IF there is one artiste who has experienced equal parts of applause and ridicule then it is one of Lynx Entertainment’s new artiste, KiDi.

While he is loved for his looks, voice and fashion style, he is ridiculed by some for his lyrics.

When he dropped his current song, ‘Thunder’, it was well received but there were those who felt a line in the song such as, If I leave you, make thunder fire me, was not right.

For people such as Adom FM’s presenter, Mike 2 and Pastor Kumchacha, the young man had cursed himself.

However, when Showbiz recently caught up with him in the Lynx Studios, KiDi said, “it is unfortunate that some section of Ghanaians want to bring into being what is not.

“Music is art, it is literature, we exaggerate; the fact that Romeo said he would die for Juliet did not mean he would go and stand on the battlefield for her, he was expressing the extent to which he loved her.

“See, people should stop sabotaging our music and appreciate us more, a Nigerian will do a song and say ‘make water carry me dey go, far away’ and we will jump on it and use it for all kinds of things but a Ghanaian does it and it is an issue. Thunder doesn’t even kill, it is lightning that does.

“A Nigerian will sample a Ghanaian song and we will give it all kinds of compliments but a Ghanaian will sample a Nigerian song and there is chaos, why are we like that”,? he queried.

He continued, “I do music for the people; I don’t know why people consciously do that, read certain meanings into our music and draw certain conclusions. It is not healthy, but we do not have control of over it, so we will take it like that.”

In all this, KiDi, real name Dennis Nana Dwamena, has dreams of becoming one of the greatest artistes in Ghana.

“I want to be that artiste that will be impossible to do without, like someone else’s album will not be complete without me on it, a show will not sell if I am not on that bill. Yes, that is who I want to be.”

He graduated from the University of Ghana, Legon, in 2016 with a degree in Economics and Information Studies but KiDi said his focus was on music.

“For now, I just want to put all my energy and resources into the music, I have a lot on my plate now that continuing my education will not be possible.”

In as much as he thanked the media for their support, he encouraged them also to be writing more positive stories and not skew their words for their own interest.

“The support of the media has been great, I thank you all for being with me since day one but please, the twisting of words and negative headlines is too much.

“You grant an interview and the next day, the headline is just crazy but in all we appreciate,” he said.

The 2018 VGMA?Highlife Song of the Year winner, is an old student of the Accra Academy.

He looks up to people such as Justin Timberlake, Kojo Antwi, Chris Brown, Bruno Mars and Usher.
