As part of the activities leading to the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards this year, the ‘Experience Concert’ is set to give lovers of Ghanaian music a night of what many might call an ‘impossible’ mixture of musical performances, as the Independence Square, on the 11th of May at 7pm, will see controversial artiste ‘Shatta Wale’  perform on the same stage as his musical rivals ‘Samini,’ ‘Sarkodie’, and’ Stonebwoy’. Though ‘Stonebwoy’ a few weeks ago stated that he was not in any competition with any artiste, some fans are still in the competition mood and are therefore looking to the outcome of this concert as an indicator of which artist is likely to win the ‘Artiste of the Year’ at this year’s VGMA.

With ‘Shatta Wale’, ‘Sarkodie’ and ‘Stonebwoy’ all grabbing nominations for arguably the most prestigious award in the VGMA, the ‘Artiste of the Year’, the ‘Experience Concert’ has been labeled by some enthusiastic fans as the showdown between these three musical giants. Other acts that will be lighting up the stage are Kwesi Arthur, Adina, Empress Gifty, Akese Brempong, A.K. Songstress, Adane Best, and Tinny.

The VGMA ‘Experience Concert’ was initially scheduled for 17th May but was rescheduled to the 11th May this year. George Quaye, the Public Relations Officer of Charter House; the organizers of the VGMA, said it was a deliberate move to ensure that artistes performing during the main event would give out their best; considering that the initial date for the ‘Experience Concert’ was a day before the main event. “Most of the acts that will perform at the Concert are the same acts that will perform on the main night. We figured we should give them enough rest and preparation time for the big night”, he explained.

The VGMA ‘Experience Concert’ might turn out to be the longest musical marathon in Ghana this year as a host of Ghanaian musicians are joining the wagon to celebrate 20 years of a musical journey. The 20th VGMAs Experience Concert is supported by DSTV, GoTV, TV3, and proudly sponsored by Vodafone.
