A planned ‘peaceful vigil’ against the worsening power crisis by some showbiz personalities has been given the green light.

The Police in Accra today agreed for the May 16 event to hold. Actress Yvonne Nelson, one of several parties to the protest confirmed this when she posted a group photo she and some colleagues of hers took with the regional command on Instagram Thursday afternoon, suggesting they were all clear.

Lawyers for Nelson, and musician Sarkodie wrote to the Ghana Police to notify them of a ‘peaceful vigil’ they intend to hold on May 16.

Dated May 4, the letter, signed by messrs Kofi Bentil, and Nana Kwasi Awuah, said it was in pursuant of the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491), which permits citizens to notify the police of special events.

The vigil will bring together an umbrella of celebrities who have since subscribed to the #dumsormuststop campaign started by Miss Nelson to raise concerns oN Ghana’s worsening power crisis.

The protest is an extension of the social media campaign, which continues to receive enormous endorsements from well meaning Ghanaians.

Dumsor, the local street term for the frequent power outages the country has been plunged into got Nelson to take to Twitter days ago to make her concerns known.

And she did it in a scathing style that ruffled some feathers. She subsequently got backing from colleague entertainment personalities Lydia Forson and Sarkodie.
