Ever since he was propelled onto the limelight on the back of Obrafour’s Kasiebo on which he featured in 2009, hiplife artiste, Guru, has been feeding music enthusiasts with songs with catch phrases every year.

But it seems his fans will experience famine this year because the ritual will not be happening this year. Six months of the year are gone and nothing seems to be coming from the stables of the Lapaz Toyota hitmaker as he has been quite low key lately.

In a chat with Showbiz on Monday, Guru who released Pooley, Democracy and Mmaa Kuo in the past years said he is not releasing any songs this year as has been the “ritual” in the past years. His reason? He wants to rebrand “to come out with a better product.

“I’ve had many of my followers on social media ask when I’m releasing a new song this year but the truth is that, I have no intention of doing that. I want to take some time off to rebrand myself and reflect on how I can improve my act as an artiste,” Guru said.

According to the Boys Abre artiste, various consultations with “people who have special interest in my career” have revealed the need to take a different career path that will make my brand appealing to the international market.

“I’ve taken into consideration all the criticisms about my poor stagecraft and other issues which I consider as very pertinent to the growth of my music career.

“Thus my lyrical composition as well as music videos I will be releasing will testify to the new course I will be charting. All these adjustments are necessary for the advancement of the Guru brand,” he said.

The 2014 VGMA Hiplife Song of the Year winner recently signed onto a new management, NKZ, after parting ways with Empire Entertainment and Black Standard.

He said he believes in the vision of his new management company to help him achieve his dream of being a force to reckon with on the international music front.

“Sometimes, you need to take some hard decisions to move forward in life. It was a difficult decision to take when I needed to part ways with my old management team since I’ve worked with them from the start of my career but I know my new management is competent of the task ahead,” he said.

Known for songs such as Mpaebo, Nkwadaa Nkwadaa, Alkayida and Kpakpaka, Guru, who hails from Nkoranza in the Brong-Ahafo region, had his basic education at Rev. John Teye Memorial School in Accra and continued to Apam Secondary School.
